On August 20, 2024, Sri Sathya Sai University for Human Excellence celebrated World Sanskrit Day with great reverence and scholarly enthusiasm. Organised by the Department of Sanskrit and Vedic Studies, the event highlighted the profound richness of the Sanskrit language, its intricate grammar, and its foundational role in the preservation of Shruti and Smriti literature. The celebration was a tribute to the ancient language, which continues to be a beacon of knowledge, spirituality, and cultural heritage.
The students of the Sanskrit and Vedic Studies Department guided the attendees through the vast expanse of Sanskrit, exploring major Upanishads, Puranas, and the origins of the language. Special emphasis was placed on Maharshi Panini, the legendary scholar whose work in Sanskrit grammar laid the foundation for linguistic studies.
The event featured insightful talks, including one by student Brother Jeevan, who delivered his speech in Sanskrit, exemplifying the university's commitment to preserving and promoting the language. Esteemed faculty members, Assistant Professors Dr Sridhar Bhat and Ganesh Bhat, also addressed the gathering.
A significant highlight of the event was the presentation of the "Madhudashaanga stotram" by Dr Sridhar Bhat. This unique composition encapsulates the tenfold principles of institutional and individual values. The institutional values – Concern, Cleanliness, Communication, Collaboration, and Continuous Improvement – were harmonised with the individual values of Duty, Devotion, Discipline, Discrimination, and Detachment, reflecting the holistic approach to education that the university embraces.
World Sanskrit Day at Sri Sathya Sai University was not just a celebration of an ancient language but also a reaffirmation of the timeless values it upholds. The event served as a reminder of the significance of Sanskrit as a vehicle of knowledge and a spiritual guide, inspiring students and faculty alike to delve deeper into its study and practice.
