On 8th August 2024, the Kannada Department organised a guest lecture on the topic of "Modern Kannada Poetry Form." The resource person for the programme was Dr. S. M. Gopi, Assistant Professor in the Kannada Department at Bangalore City University. He spoke extensively about modern poetic forms, covering their background, origin, and development.
Dr. Gopi enlightened the students about various poetic movements, including Renaissance, Progressive, Modern, Dalit Rebellion, and Feminist poetry. He explained how each period reflected significant changes in poetic form due to the social, political, and cultural shifts of the time. Additionally, he provided a broad overview of the poetic forms of these periods by referencing the works of key poets. The session included a lively interaction between the resource person and students, with a question-and-answer segment that further enriched the discussion.
In his address, the Head of the Department, Dr. Manjunatha, expressed his gratitude to Dr. Gopi for delivering such an in-depth exploration of modern poetic forms within a short span of time, drawing upon his extensive research. The programme was attended by Assistant Professors Dr. Hemant Kumar S. and Dr. Ashoka N. S., along with senior students, research fellows, and optional Kannada students from Nallakadirenahalli, who gained valuable insights from the session.
