Introduction:

A group of four MA in English Literature students from Sri Sathya Sai University of Human Excellence, Muddenahalli, led by Assistant Professor Dr. Ajay M, embarked on an academic expedition to the University of Mysore from September 13 to 16, 2023. The trip was meticulously planned to provide the students with invaluable insights into the realm of academia, particularly within the field of English Literature.

Day 1:

On the first day of the trip, the students arrived at the University of Mysore and embarked on an extensive campus tour. They visited various departments and learned about the diverse academic offerings of the university. They also had the opportunity to interact with faculty and students from different disciplines.

One of the highlights of the day was a meeting with Professor B N Balajee, a renowned Shakespeare scholar. Professor Balajee shared his insights on academic research and offered the students valuable guidance on their academic journey.

Day 2:

On the second day, the students visited the university library and explored the vast collection of literary archives and manuscripts. They had the opportunity to examine the letters and manuscripts of some of the most illustrious authors in literary history, including William Shakespeare, T S Eliot, Aldous Huxley, George Orwell, and Sri Aurobindo. This experience provided them with a glimpse into the creative processes and intellectual exchanges of these great minds.

In the afternoon, the students visited the Karnataka State Open University (KSOU) and gained insights into the academic programs and initiatives offered by this institution.

Day 3:

On the third and final day of the trip, the students attended a seminar celebrating the centenary of T S Eliot's "The Waste Land" at the Department of English, Mahajana First Grade College, Mysore. The seminar brought together scholars and intellectuals from various institutions to discuss the intricacies of this classic literary work. The students were privileged to listen to the insights of renowned scholars and engage in stimulating discussions with other participants.

Conclusion:

The field trip to the University of Mysore was an enriching experience for the students. It provided them with valuable insights into the realm of academia and the field of English Literature. The students also had the opportunity to interact with renowned scholars and learn from their expertise. This experience has undoubtedly left an indelible mark on their academic journey and further fuelled their passion for learning.
