On the sacred occasion of the eighth day of the month of Shravana, Sri Sathya Sai University for Human Excellence witnessed vibrant and spiritually uplifting Krishna Janmashtami celebrations. This day, marking the birth of Lord Krishna, was infused with devotion, cultural expression, and an atmosphere of divine bliss across the university campus.
The festivities commenced at 7:00 AM with a Go Puja, a traditional worship of cows, at the Sai Nandini Goshala. The ritual, deeply rooted in Vedic traditions, symbolises reverence for the cow as a sacred animal, representing sustenance and maternal care. Following the Go Puja, a Krishna Puja was conducted, invoking the blessings of Lord Krishna, the divine child and cosmic guide.
At 9:00 AM, a grand procession was held, where Lord Krishna was carried in a beautifully decorated Pallaki (palanquin), signifying the journey of the divine in the world. The Pallaki was accompanied by Kolata, a traditional folk dance, rhythmic drum beats, and spirited slogans, creating an atmosphere of celebration and devotion.
As the procession reached the Pentagon Prayer Hall, the entire hall resonated with divine energy, filling the hearts of the devotees with joy and reverence. In the Prayer Hall, the Krishna Puja continued with an Astavadhana Seva, a special Vedic ritual performed by the Department of Vedic Studies. The seva included the recitation of sacred stotrams (hymns), melodious songs, and a graceful dance recital by a student, all offered as a tribute to Lord Krishna.
This ritual, combining multiple forms of devotional offerings, emphasised the significance of holistic worship, where music, dance, and prayer converge in the service of the divine. In the afternoon, the celebrations moved to the university grounds for the pot-breaking ceremony, symbolising the breaking of the bondage of the body and realising the True Self.
This event, filled with excitement and spiritual significance, reminded the students of the deeper philosophical teachings of Lord Krishna, encouraging them to transcend physical limitations and seek the eternal truth within. The evening concluded with a gathering in the Prayer Hall for Bhajans, where the Bhajan group led the assembly in singing devotional songs dedicated to Lord Krishna. The vibrant Kolata dance, performed once again, added to the joyous atmosphere.
After a sumptuous meal, the day's celebrations culminated in the Shayana Seva, where lullabies were sung to Lord Krishna, expressing gratitude and devotion before the day drew to a close. The Krishna Janmashtami celebrations at Sri Sathya Sai University for Human Excellence were a profound blend of devotion, culture, and spiritual learning.
The events of the day not only commemorated the birth of Lord Krishna but also served as a reminder of his teachings, inspiring students and faculty alike to lead lives rooted in devotion, righteousness, and the pursuit of self-realisation. The celebrations beautifully encapsulated the essence of Krishna's life and teachings, leaving a lasting spiritual impact on all who participated.
