Throughout his career, Major General Koul undertook challenging assignments, conducting surveys in insurgency-affected areas like Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh. He played a pivotal role in introducing 'Digital Mapping' to India in 1989 and led the Survey Team during the Indian Scientific Expedition to Antarctica, creating the first Indian map of Maitri & Environs.
